Subject
Why small type is getting wider

Good morning,

Three of the typefaces we set this week shipped a wider cut for small sizes, and none of them called it a new family. We spent Tuesday finding out why, and the answer has more to do with phone screens than with fashion.

Also this week: a studio in Turin that turns down half its briefs, and the settings page people actually read to the end.

The only email I open before coffee. The typeface section has sent me to three foundries.

Short enough to finish, specific enough to use. I forward the studio visit to my team most weeks.

It reads like a note from friends who happen to know a lot about design.
